did a good thing for their family, but what really interests me is the peculiarity of the dolls with which they were rewarded. Clearly those pictured were designed to appeal to people, yet what would a doll that was only designed for dogs resemble? Given some dogs’ propensity to become fascinated or irritated with children’s toys, it seems hard to pinpoint exactly what qualities would appeal to a dog. Is it color, scent, size? All of the above? And where do shoes appear in this list (given that I have a dog who has eaten hundreds of dollars worth of shoes, boots, and slippers)?
In other words, to misquote Freud, what do dogs really want, besides cheese and the detritus from the litter box?
