On March 26, 2016 at approximately 4:30 p.m., I jumped off a falling ladder to avoid breaking my shoulder and ribs. Instead, I shattered my heel and fractured my ankle, the heel break being one of the worst kind of breaks possible. Weeks of incredibly boring NWB (non-weight bearing) rest were required, plus surgery, a cast, crutches (the worst), and a walker were required, plus physical therapy and countless x-rays to monitor healing. Ultimately, it will take between one and two years to reach 95% recovery……and I’m one of the lucky ones. I got so frustrated with all the negative prognoses out there that I started my own support group at heelfracturetalk.wordpress.com.
